Obviously, the folks overseas don't share the same holiday schedule with the good ol' U S of A. So, while we were busy celebrating the fruits of our labors yesterday, some blokes were carrying on with business as usual. That's when this musical gem appeared. One of the U.K.'s most well-known and well-respected contemporary electronic artists, Kieran Hebden (a.k.a. Four Tet), crafted a lengthy and beautiful DJ set for FACT, and it's one of the most eclectic and preciously composed mixes you're likely to hear this year.

Like Hebden's latest full-length record, this year's stellar There Is Love in You, his mix starts with something simple -- a hypnotic bass undulation -- and gradually builds on the idea with analog synth tones, sparkling ambience, pulsing dance beats, live drums, and a host of other sounds. This Four Tet mix focuses on the dancefloor and its percussive want, but what sets it apart is the way it exchanges bombastic club-friendly sounds for an emphasis on subtlety and sublimity.

Here, the micro-samples of songs like Mount Kimbie's "Blind Night Errand" are mixed with tribally influenced dubstep from Grevious Angel. Bass music experimentalists like Ramadanman share face time with future-garage producer FaltyDL. And Four Tet even makes space for himself to share new original tracks and forthcoming remixes. The mix contains some of the best in dance music production coming from the U.S. and U.K. in recent memory, with a few classic sounds mixed in for good measure. If you listen to one mixtape this year, make it FACT Mix 182: Four Tet.
