In Print: The xx on a Victory Lap, Behind the Bruise Cruise, and a Not-So-Fragile Perfume Genius

The xx: ""Standing on that stage was incredibly surreal," The xx's Jamie Smith tells SF Weekly's Rae Alexandra in our print edition this week about winning the prestigious Mercury Prize two weeks ago. Now the xx is on its last U.S. tour for a while -- what Smith calls "a proper party," with friends in tow -- and plans to mix things up songwise at it's show at the Fox Theater on Thursday. Read more about winning the Mercury, and what the three band members have to do when they return home to England, in Rae's story.

Bruise Cruise: Why are some of San Francisco's grittiest bands playing on a cruise ship next year? That's what I try to find out in a Sound and Vision column this week about the Bruise Cruise, a bizarre vacation package that will pack 400 garage-rock fans on a giant ship headed to the Bahamas, along with 2,000 regular cruise ship passengers. "There's going to be families on vacation, dealing with a bunch of crazy rockers getting wasted all the time on a boat," San Francisco's Ty Segall tells me. "It's going to be hilarious."

Perfume Genius: "You have to actually feel your feelings before they can go away," Mike Hadreas, the man behind Perfume Genius, explains to Kurt B. Reighley for this week's story about the party-boy-turned-writer-of-skeletal-ballads. But even after rehab, Hadreas still isn't totally comfortable talking: "It's weird to be publicly sharing that version of myself that I hid," he says.

Also this week: we recommend shows from Dirty Projectors, Fennesz, Flying Lotus, Mount Kimbie, and Kyle Hall.
