After facing swift and strong criticism for a proposal to ban raves in publicly owned places in California, San Francisco Assemblywoman Fiona Ma says she's shelving the idea -- at least for the moment.

Ma issued a statement yesterday announcing that she'll put the rave ban proposal on hold "until she can sit down with entertainment industry insiders, youths, law enforcement, local government officials and others," according to SF Gate.

It's unclear if or when these "stakeholder meetings" might take place. But as we and others have brought up, the language in Ma's bill raises numerous problems.

Here, from SF Gate, is part of Ma's statement. Sounds like she's not set on going forward:

"From the beginning, my intent was to find common sense public safety solutions for large entertainment events at state owned facilities," she said in a written statement Monday. "I don't believe anyone wants the tragedies that occurred this year to continue happening. The stakeholder meetings will be inclusive and I commit to not moving AB 74 until meeting and hearing from all perspectives. This issue is complicated. We have to find a way to protect young people without compromising everyone's legitimate rights to enjoy themselves in a safe environment. I appreciate everyone's input throughout this process.
