In honor of this cloudy, rainy Valentines day, S.F. rap duo The Jealous Guys are releasing The Love Mixtape, their first collection of tracks made available to the world. If the mixtape's title wasn't enough of a giveaway, they dedicate seventeen songs to the L-word, with no-nonsense, beats-and-rhymes hip-hop.

Lyrically, they touch on love in all its forms: love of women, love of family, love of their craft. But for the most part, this isn't the gushy, happy shit. These are melancholy, reminiscent, reflective thoughts on past disappointments and regrets. It's the stressful uncertainty you get thinking of what the future might be.

Meanwhile, they have beats covering a wide range of different influences: There's the '94 throwback sound, dark and heavy UK bass sound, sped-up '70s soul samples, and even reimaginings of indie and pop tracks. I mean, sampling recognizable hooks from Passion Pit, Arcade Fire, and Eric Clapton shouldn't work on any level, but they manage to pull it off.

Anyway, The Love Mixtape is available as a free download, so give it a listen, because judging from this, it won't be the last we hear from The Jealous Guys.
