Oops! Coheed and Cambria's Michael Todd Goes to Jail Instead of His Gig

Things not to do before your gig: cut off your fingers, get lost backstage, get arrested.

The list is short, but Coheed and Cambria bassist Michael Todd allegedly forgot to follow the rules before his band was scheduled to open for Soundgarden last night in Massachusetts. The 30-year-old rock star apparently has a soft spot for Oxycontin -- so much of one that he allegedly held up a Walgreens on his way to the show to get a fix.

Police say Todd simply went to the pharmacy with a note on his cellphone saying he had a bomb. Maybe it wasn't the most brilliant plan, but the threat allegedly scored him six bottles of the pain medicine.

Unfortunately, he didn't really plan much beyond that -- like, say, how to get away -- so he hailed a cab. Witnesses at the scene took the name of the taxi company, which allowed police to figure out where Todd was headed.

When Todd arrived at the Comcast Center before the show, police arrested him and left Coheed and Cambria to perform without its bassist.

The Boston Globe's review of the show praised Soundgarden but didn't mention Coheed even once. Fans have Tweeted their support, disappointment and predictably cruel but still amusing jokes, though some at the concert couldn't tell the difference.

The band said on its blog that the tour will go on with replacement bassist Wes Styles, who has performed with Coheed in the past. The band says it will deal with Todd after the tour.

In the meantime, Todd faces charges of armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance.
