With the passing of Labor Day, we've finally moved through summer and hit fall. Now that the agony of that realization is over, we can finally look back and appreciate just how good Summer 2011 was for San Francisco nightlife, with huge bookings, rare performances, and solid parties taking center stage. If the following events are any indication, it seems as though the momentum built up over the summer is going to last us well into 2012. Don't believe me? Check below for the best picks this weekend.

What: No Way Back & Honey Soundsystem Present Virgo Four

Where: Public Works OddJob Loft

When: 10 p.m - 4 a.m.

Why: As if last week's party with Optimo wasn't good enough, the No Way Back crew are back again with yet another promising night. This time, they've teamed up with Honey Soundsystem to bring out something really special: a live (that's live, not DJ) set by legendary Chicago house duo Virgo Four. Once under-promoted and overlooked, the group has enjoyed a recent moment in the spotlight due to the release of an anthology box set (on Rush Hour) and a high-profile remix by Caribou. This is a rare opportunity to hear classic Chicago deep house performed live by two of its most skilled practitioners. To get an idea of the vibe, check out this podcast Virgo Four recently did for XLR8R magazine. In addition, Jason Kendig from Honey Soundsystem will be joining resident DJs Conor and Solar to round out the evening. Let me just reiterate: You don't want to miss this one.

What: Scion and Lights Down Low Present araabMUZIK & DJ FUNK

Where: Som Bar

When: 9:30 p.m. - 3 a.m.

Why: Lights Down Low has gone through a lot of changes over the years, and while I'm probably not alone in saying that I'll always remember it best as its original incarnation at 222 Hyde, there are a lot of good things to say about its current status at Som. This month, the LDL crew has teamed up with the folks at Scion to bring out two fantastic and quite different artists. araabMUZIK is best known as a modern master of the MPC and he's set to play the night live on his sampler (which was really impressive when he was here last time with Just Blaze). Watching the man work is something you have to see to believe, so check out this clip to get a feel for what he does. The other headliner, DJ Funk, is no stranger to San Francisco. Though he hasn't been out lately, the Chicago ghetto house DJ specializes in a brutally fast and comically oversexed style of house music that's been pumping dance floors the world over since '93. To get an idea, check out this video of a performance he did in SF back in 2005 when he was on tour with Justice.
