A proposition: The best part about Wilco putting out a new album is that it means the band will be touring behind it.

Yes? No? Maybe?

Whatever you think of The Whole Love, Wilco's latest album (and oh damn if you don't like "Art of Almost"), anyone who appreciates the Chicago alt-country-mavens-turned-adventurous-art-rockers has to love the presence and diverse songs its members bring to the live stage. We caught Wilco at its last sold-out Bay Area show at the Greek Theater in June 2009, right after the release of Wilco (The Album), and we're still having daydreams about Nels Cline's guitar playing and hearing 8,000 people sing along to "California Stars" on a warm summer night.

But we digress. Wilco, of course, just released a new album, and the band also just announced a full West Coast tour run. (It's not even on the official website yet!) Thrillingly, the new itinerary has the band playing not one but three Bay Area shows early next year.

That's right: Wilco is set for a damn-near Bay Area residency. The band plays San Jose's Civic Auditorium on Jan. 28, the S.F. Warfield on Jan. 29, and Oakland's Fox Theater on Jan. 31.

Those of you who do math will realize that this means the band will be spending an entire full day in the Bay Area with no show to play. (A day on which we will probably call in sick to stalk Jeff Tweedy.)

But seriously, this is exciting news for Bay Area Wilco fans. We're not clear on the on-sale dates for these shows yet, but we'll update you as soon as we know.

Last night U2 performed the first U.S. date of it’s Innocence + Experience tour at SAP Center in San Jose. All four band members were present despite recent injuries sustained by both Bono and Edge. The sold out show took audience members on a walk down memory lane as the band revisited their roots. The innovative stage and lighting used gave the arena show an intimate feel, and engaged audience members in all sections of the venue. Photographs by Sugarwolf.

The 103rd annual Bay to Breakers 12K race was packed on Sunday despite the cold weather. With a starting point a few blocks from The Embarcadero, people dressed as bananas, Elvis and everything in between ran west through the city and finished at the Great Highway where breakers crash onto Ocean Beach.
