With the arrival of June, so too comes the summer party season -- and everyone seems to be ramping up in anticipation of the warm weather. Of course, that means more big guests, but also some variety as well. Here are some top picks to help you make sense of it all. Read on -- your weekend awaits.

Friday, June 1

What: Low End Theory presents Nosaj Thing

Where: 1015 Folsom

When: 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Why: If our recent post on Low End Theory got your attention, here's a good chance to check it out. This month the party will be showcasing the far-out sounds of Nosaj Thing, the L.A.-based producer behind 2009's excellent Drift. Like many of his contemporaries, his work plays in the space between the traditional boundaries of genre -- tracks like "Voices" and "1685/Bach" layer IDM-like tone color over the basic structure of hip-hop. Also on the bill is the similarly trippy Baths; check out "Maximalist" and "Animals."

What: Deep Crates presents Matthew Quiet

Where: Underground SF

When: 10 p.m - 2 a.m.

Why: With the prevalence of laptops, it's easy to forget that DJs used to lug heavy crates of vinyl to gigs. As a performer and musical curator, you were judged not only on your technical chops but also on the "depth" of your crates. These days this mentality is kept alive by a relatively small group of anachronists who refuse to budge from tradition -- think of it like the samurai in Meiji Japan or cowboys at the turn of the century. Underground SF hosts a monthly party called "Deep Crates" that caters to this crowd. Going on for a couple months now, it's the kind of place you can go to experience the record collections of some of this city's most devoted players. This time around the party is showcasing Matthew Quiet, a recent transplant from Portland who built a name for himself DJing the popular "Nightclubbing" parties at Holocene. You can get a sneak peek at Quiet's style by listening to this mix he recorded live at Honey Soundsystem last year.

Saturday, June 2

What: Haçeteria with Etbonz and Ash Williams

Where: Deco Lounge

When: 9 p.m. - 3 a.m.

Why: Though originally started as a revival night for old school rave sounds, Haçeteria has since found its niche as one of the best places to catch live sets by the city's up-and-coming avant-house producers. This month the party is back at it with two debut live performances. First up is Etbonz, a producer out of Portland whose sound flirts with aspects of proggy space disco and first-wave Detroit techno. Check out "Dream Recall," "Year of the Dragon," and "RoboCats." Next up is local hero Ash Williams, the DJ and promoter behind such parties as The Chase and Beards of a Feather. For an idea of what he's all about, check out his classic house-leaning productions "Enough" and "Nightshade."

What: No Way Back presents Dopplereffekt

Where: Monarch

When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Why: Detroit techno is a world populated by mysterious producers and hidden figures. It says a lot then that Dopplereffekt are one of the most shadowy on the scene. Started in the '90s as an offshoot of Drexciya, the outfit blew minds with its dark electrofunk and cryptic communiques. These sounds (which come off like a nightmarish Kraftwerk) would go on to be highly influential for the electroclash movement. Tracks like "Sterilization," "Infophysix," and "Z-Boson" show off the breadth of Dopplereffekt's output. Now the group is headed to Monarch to play a rare live set at No Way Back. Joining them for the evening is a roster of live performances that includes C.L.A.W.S., Caltrop, and It's Own Infinite Flower.
