The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia would have turned 70 this Aug. 1, 2012, and to celebrate, fellow Dead member Bob Weir and a ton of other musicians are throwing Move Me Brightly, a Garcia tribute show that will be live-streamed from Weir's own TRI Studios in San Rafael.

The list of musical guests for the Aug. 3 party includes Craig Finn and Tad Kubler of the Hold Steady, S.F. songwriter Cass McCombs, psych-folk singer Jonathan Wilson, Phish's Mike Gordon, Vampire Weekend's Chris Tomson, former Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia Band vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux, and many more. Carlos Santana will be interviewed via video. David Crosby will be reading a poem he wrote in Garcia's memory. Actor Luke Wilson will be emceeing the event. The late guitarist's daughters will be on hand.

The party will take place at TRI Studios in San Rafael, but will be streamed online starting at 6:30 p.m. on the TRI website. The Garcia tribute is just the latest in a series of high-profile shows streamed from Tamalpais Research Institute, which is both a sort of high-tech recording studio and a broadcast center, where Weir and a variety of guests perform for large online audiences. Though shows at TRI have gotten some high-profile attention before, we expect this one to be a very big deal.

In additional Garcia news, The Grateful Dead Movie will be coming back to theaters for one night only on Aug. 1, on what would have been the late guitarist's 70th birthday. The 1977 film, which focuses on a five-night run of shows held at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom in 1974, will play at S.F.'s Cinearts Empire 3 and the Century 9 San Francisco Centre theaters, as well as many others.
