For years the Rockit Room at 406 Clement has been the capital of live music in the Richmond District, hosting, among other things, lots of local rock and hip-hop, including such luminaries as Etta James, Third Eye Blind, John Lee Hooker, and, er, Train. Well, this week, the club is changing its name. As of Saturday, Dec. 1, the Rockit Room will be called Neck of the Woods. The two-story club plans to relaunch that night with a six-band, two-stage showcase featuring New Diplomat, Mr. Loveless, and other local bands.

So why the change? That's unclear at the moment, but it may have something to do with the Rockit Room's troubles with drugs, crime, neighbors, and the city's Entertainment Commission. Earlier this year, after attention from the commission, club owners suspended their operating permit for a month in the hopes of coming into compliance with stricter security guidelines meant to stave off problems. Between October 2011 and March of this year, 21 incidents at the club, ranging from fights to noise, required police presence, S.F. cops told the Examiner. Once incident earlier this year saw 100 people spill out onto Clement Street in a 1:30 a.m. brawl.

The Rockit Room has been open lately, though. Friday sees the "Rockit Room Farewell Show" with Vela, the Avenues, and and Natives. Saturday's opening party for Neck of the Woods will feature two stages and the following lineup:

New Diplomat

Mr. Loveless

The Hundred Days

Doe Eye

Seeking Empire

Debbie Neigher

DJ Aaron Axelsen

DJ Huffy
