In case you somehow haven't heard, My Bloody Valentine is back. The Irish shoegaze outfit is on tour behind its new album, the long-awaited m b v, and performs this Friday at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. (Much more on MBV and m b v in SF Weekly's upcoming print issue, you should be warned.)

Friday's sure-to-be-deafening concert is not the only upcoming event of interest to fans of this beloved band, however: On Thursday evening, My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig will perform a free DJ set at a record store in Oakland.

Yes, really. He lives in the Bay Area with his wife, Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval, and shops regularly at Oakland's Stranded Records. And according to our sources, it was Ó Cíosóig's idea to do the free DJ set there at 6 p.m. this Thursday. The event is free, all-ages, and takes places at Stranded Records, 6436 Telegraph Ave. in Oakland.

If you haven't heard of Stranded before, well, it's sort of new: The store celebrates its one-year anniversary on Sept. 14 with free, in-store performances by L.A. punk trio the Urinals, and local musicians-of-note Ava Mendoza, Dominique Leone, and Meg Baird.

We're not entirely sure what to expect from a DJ set from My Bloody Valentine's drummer, but aren't you curious? It should make a nice prelude to Friday's concert. And be sure to check out our further coverage of My Bloody Valentine -- okay, fine, we talked to guitarist/singer/figurehead Kevin Shields -- when it hits the Internet later today and the streets tomorrow.
