Kirk Hammett, Metallica lead guitarist and obsessive horror film collector/expert, is also a San Francisco native. Next month, he's hosting an event that will meld two of those biographical points -- horror and cinema in San Francisco -- when he presides over a double-feature of vintage horror flicks at the Balboa Theatre that's a benefit for small-screen film houses citywide.

Of course, his film picks are legit: On Nov. 7, the Balboa will show 1932's White Zombie, starring Bela Lugosi, and 1934's The Black Cat, which stars Lugosi and Boris Karloff -- surely two of the most famous vintage horror stars of all time. Couple those with Hammett, and you're in the realm of horror royalty. (Horroyalty? Sorry.)

Anyway, the double feature will benefit the San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Association, which works "to preserve and maintain" smaller theaters in the city. And as a bonus, Hammett will have some of his own legendary horror collection on display in the lobby of the theater.

Regular tickets are $35 each and include complementary beer and wine; the $125 VIP package includes two tickets, beer/wine, a meet-and-greet with Hammett after the show, and an event poster signed by Mr. Von Hammett.
