Autumns in the Bay Area have long been marked by Neil Young's acoustic Bridge School Benefit concerts at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Starting this year, we're getting a similarly high-profile acoustic benefit concert in the spring. On May 15, Sammy Hagar is convening a vast group of (mostly local) musicians including Metallica's James Hetfield, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Joe Satriani, Scott Mathews, Nancy Wilson (of Heart), and Pat Monahan (of Train) and more for a special benefit show at the Fillmore. The concert will benefit the Pediatric Cancer Program at the UCSF Benoiff Children's Hospital, of which Hagar is a major supporter. Tickets for the Acoustic-4-A-Cure show go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday, March 21.

"I ran the idea of a benefit concert by James (Hetfield) and we quickly had an amazing lineup of artists on board, then Live Nation stepped up with The Fillmore and now we've got an epic event -- the first of many hopefully -- so we can help keep their research and programs funded and on the path to a cure," Hagar says in a statement announcing the show.

Attendees can reportedly expect "once-in-a-lifetime duets and jam sessions" at the concert, which begins promptly at 8 p.m. on May 15. Regular tickets are $125 each, and there's a limited number of VIP tickets available for $500 each, which include food and drink passes. There's also a two-ticket maximum purchase for everyone. Tickets will only be available at LiveNation's website -- not through the Fillmore box office or any other vendors.

If you can get tickets, though, this looks like a lineup that could rival the magic of many previous Bridge School shows. The proceeds will of course go to benefit the UCSF Benioff hospital.
