Every year, April brings Record Store Day. And Record Store Day brings unforeseen treasures. Such as: Flaming Lips' head freak Wayne Coyne touring the West Coast to meet fans and sign copies of an obscure Flaming Lips reissue that is not just an obscure Flaming Lips reissue. Yes, this is really happening. You might want to be at Aquarius Records this Thursday.

On April 3, Coyne will visit the Mission record store to sign copies of the Flaming Lips 1st EP -- the actual first recording of the band, made over two sessions in 1984. The remastered EP comes on 12-inch green vinyl signed by Coyne, of course, but the wowza packaging doesn't stop there:

Wayne will be selling an extremely Limited Edition version of the EP which is housed with a hand-crafted, custom-made solid white chocolate skull. Naturally, it is anatomically correct and life-sized. Would you expect anything less? Each skull contains a special Gold Coin that is redeemable as admission to any headline show by The Flaming Lips in the world.

The white chocolate is supposedly even tasty. We can't vouch for its flavor profile, but we're pretty sure Coyne will be at Aquarius this Thursday, April 3, at 5 p.m.

Phish is in the midst of a block of sold out shows at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (October 27-29). The Monday night concert featured a rare first set opener of “Walfredo” with the band members switching instruments for the song. The evening’s highlights included John Fishman and his iconic vacuum cleaner solo and favorites such as Chalk Dust Torture, Slave to the Traffic Light, Axilla, Rift, 2001 Space Odyssey, and Maze. The show also featured Phish’s debut of a, seemingly impromptu, version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” to with roaring approval of the, singing along, crowd. With Game 6 being tonight, partying Phish fans will join Giants fans in Civic Center Plaza where there will be a World Series viewing party on a large screen set up by the City.
