Amid so much talk about what's happening to music in booming San Francisco -- including an SF Weekly-presented panel on that very issue tonight -- we've just heard about another band's exodus from the city scene.

Yes, folks, Train is going to Oakland.

The group that once implored "Save Me, San Francisco" in an album and hit song today announced plans for a new release entitled Save Me, Oakland. Apparently, even dominating adult contemporary and pop radio with beige singles like "Drops of Jupiter" and "Hey, Soul Sister" doesn't pay enough to cover San Francisco rent anymore.

"After years of being closely identified with San Francisco, Train is going back to its underdog roots," frontman Pat Monahan said in a statement today. "Paying for a studio and wine storage facility in S.F. was just getting ridiculous. Plus, we hear Oakland is where all the cool kids are now, and we'd like them to rub off on us."

The lead single from Save Me, Oakland, will be the title track. Today, the band released a preview of the lyrics, which sure seem like they could fit with another well-known Train song:

I used to love Pac Heights

'Till our record sales were shite

Then I met some ladies over in Oakland

We went down by the lake

I drove and parked for its own sake

And thought, moving here could sure save me some grand.

Forgot all my fears of the Eastern side, once I had Betty's chicken fried

So I passed a blunt with all the locals I could find

I took the BART to MacArthur Ave., where a backyard even I could have

And I stared at the sun 'till I nearly lost my mind

I've been high

I've been low

I've been rich and now I'm oh so broke

San Francisco, I'm no fan

Won't you save me, save me, Oakland

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
