San Francisco's VANIISH (featuring past and present members of Wax Idols, The Soft Moon, and Veil Veil Vanish) released a video for the title track from their debut album, Memory Work, available now on digital, CD and limited edition vinyl via Metropolis Records.

The video is brand new but doesn't look it: it's a nearly perfect repackaging of the sounds and images of Joy Division, Love and Rockets, and [enter a 4AD band of your choice here]. It would have fit in nicely on MTV's 120 Minutes in the 90s. Brooklyn Vegan calls it "stark, strident gothy synthrock." The band plays the Elbo Room August 6 before a handful of shows back East early this Fall.

This year’s Phono del Sol Music Festival brought thousands of people to Potrero del Sol Park in San Francisco for music from Wye Oak, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, Nick Waterhouse, and others. Here's a video recap of the fest [Bay Bridged]

Beginning as teenagers taking snapshots of visiting heavy metal bands during the 1970s, Brian "Umlaut" Lew and Harald "O." Oimoen documented the birth and growth of the Bay Area metal scene. If you've never seen early days photos of Metallica and their peers, do so now. An interesting walk down metal's memory lane, even if metal's not your thing. [SFist]
