Day of the Dead in the Mission

1 of 40

Every year in San Francisco's Mission neighborhood, people come out to celebrate Day of the Dead (or Dia de los Muertos), during which they commemorate loved ones who have died through song, dance, and by building alters in their honor. Colorfully dressed participants, many with traditional skull imagery painted on their faces, join a procession that ends in Garfield Park.
