The weather was pretty gross this weekend. But it didn’t deter thousands from thronging the streets of Japantown for the fifth annual J-Pop Summit Festival. Language barriers were overcome and food genres were mixed as this Pacific Island pop culture diaspora threaded its way from the New People store all the way to Union Square, where Japan’s hottest musical acts closed out the fest with hyperactive, thirty-minute sets. Sure, the weekend was weird. But in a city that celebrates leather fans and J-Pop super fans on the same Sunday, what else did you expect? Photos by Susie Neilson.
