Tori Amos at the Paramount Theater, Nov. 26, 2017

Tori Amos performed at Oakland’s Paramount Theater in Oakland this past Sunday, November 26th.

Touring in celebration of her fifteenth studio album, Native Invaders, Amos performed solo, using just a keyboard, piano and her voice, with minor accompaniment from backing tracks for percussion, backing vocals and synths.
Rather than performing just straightforward versions of her studio works, Amos extended and expanded upon many songs, and explored deep cuts from albums such as Under the Pink and Choirgirl Hotel. However, ‘A Sorta Fairytale’, her biggest commercial hit, did kick off the show’s encore to great applause, with the crowd remaining standing for the rest of the show.

Surprises from Amos included a cover of Bette Midler’s ‘The Rose’and The Police’s ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger. Post-show audience chatter seemed to indicate that her rare performance of ‘Angels’ was the high point of the show for many.
The stage was sparsely decorated, with slowly transitioning backing visuals and Christmas light-like walls of lights coming to life during particular tracks.
English indie rock band Scars on 45 opened the night.
