Former Sunday School teacher Melissa Huckaby today pleaded guilty to killing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu and will be sentenced next month.

In a grim case that earned its share of the media's limelight, the Tracy, Calif. child's body turned up in a suitcase in an irrigation ditch last year. Former trailer court neighbor Huckaby turned herself in to police and was subsequently charged with kidnapping, rape, and murder. The granddaughter of a local pastor lived with her 5-year-old in the same trailer court and was described by family as a loving mother with an angelic singing voice -- who suffered from bouts of depression.

She is facing a sentence of 25 years to life without the possibility of parole; sentencing is slated for June 14.
