California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein -- along with their counterparts from both Oregon and Washington -- will tomorrow officially introduce legislation calling for a permanent ban on oil drilling off the West Coast, Boxer's office has told SF Weekly.

The call for a moratorium comes in the wake of the ongoing out-of-control BP oil spill off Louisiana.

The bill -- also sponsored by Sens.Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray of Washington and Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley of Oregon -- "would amend the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to permanently protect the $34 billion coastal economies of the three states," according to a release.

The senators' move comes on the heels of a near-identical bill introduced in Congress yesterday by Rep. John Garamendi (D-Walnut Creek).
