  • San Francisco voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. And now it's changing around its bus routes for him, too.
President Barack Obama will today return to the city where he made reference about small-town folks "clinging to their guns and religion." When he leaves San Francisco, he hopes to be clinging to millions of dollars raised for Sen. Barbara Boxer's vulnerable re-election campaign and other Democratic causes.

If you're lucky -- and well-heeled -- enough to be raising a glass with the president, you probably already know that he'll be at the Fairmont for a 4:30 cocktail ($2,000 gets you the title of "sponsor" -- and, presumably, a cocktail). And you were aware he'll dine at Ann and Gordon Getty's pad for dinner (Wanna be a co-chair? That'll be $35,200 -- and you can't walk out with the chair).

If your chair cost $2 -- on Muni -- you may be participating in today's events, too. But not in a way you'd like. Is there change coming to your commute during Obama's two-day tour of California? Let's see:

From 10 a.m. today until noon tomorrow, "Due to street closures for the visit of President Barack Obama, Muni service will be affected," reads a Muni bulletin. "The F Line and 5, 6, 9, 9L, 21, 27, 31, 38, 38L, 71, 71L, L Owl and N Owl routes will be subject to delays. Be aware that Mission Street bus routes will run on Market; be sure you board the correct bus."

Additionally, the 14 and 14L and 30 and 45 lines will slightly alter their stops; patrons are warned not to race out into the street to chase down buses rumbling past to an unfamiliar stop.

And, for the record, altering the name of TransLink to Clipper is not change we can believe in.
