The San Mateo County coroner confirmed to SF Weekly that 23-year-old Anthony Mata of Santa Clara is dead following a very bad trip at the weekend's Pop 2010 music festival at the Cow Palace.

Along with Mata's death, a handful of fellow rave-goers remain hospitalized at San Francisco General, with five listed in critical condition. Authorities suspect Mata and the gravely ill attendees took drugs tainted with toxins.

Samples of drugs seized at the event -- nearly 70 people were arrested and a cache of ecstasy, methamphetamine, LSD, and marijuana was confiscated at the rave -- are currently undergoing testing at the Poison Control Center and San Francisco Department of Public Health. No results have yet been released.

Mata died in San Francisco, at General Hospital. Yet Daly City police

investigating this as a homicide requested the San Mateo County

Coroner's Office examine the body -- and any subsequent bodies -- due

to the likely cause of death tracing back to San Mateo County.
