Back when Mike Krukow
and Duane Kuiper played for the Giants at Candlestick Park, fans brave -- or foolhardy -- enough to stick around for an extra-inning night game received a Croix de Candlestick pin
The duo -- the team's broadcasters for the past 20 years -- deserve a memento of their own. The two waited patiently for the better part of two hours at the Board of Supervisors' meeting to hear a resolution passed in their honor
. But the supes instead went into extra innings on a debate about the epic Hunters Point Shipyard redevelopment project
just an outfield toss from Kruk and Kuip's old ballyard.
While the broadcasters patiently waited in the office of Bevan Dufty, the resolution's sponsor, the supes argued about "amending CEQA," "Riprap," and wondered what the BCDC would think about all of this. At one point the following sentence was uttered: "We want to change the ICA with respect to the changes on the DDA."
Finally, the broadcasters received their due, only an hour and 15 minutes later than the scheduled 3:30 commendations. Supervisor Sean Elsbernd, flashing perhaps his first smile in board chambers in the year 2010, whipped out a baseball signed 25 years ago by Krukow to "Sean Elsbernd, future Giant."
"I am still waiting for the call," he told the broadcasters. After Kruk and Kuip left and the supes continued yet another long, contentious meeting, Elsbernd no doubt meant it. Follow us on Twitter at @TheSnitchSF
