Police are investigating a death in the 2000 block of Mission as a potential homicide -- and with good reason.

An unknown male caller alerted police to the death in the potential victim's residence at around 11:35 p.m. last night. SFPD officers discovered a white woman in her 20s in the unit mentioned by the anonymous caller, dead of unreleased causes. An anonymous caller -- believed to be the same man -- later phoned Mission Station and said he was going to "turn himself in." Yet he did not.

The San Francisco Police Department says it has no further information at this time. The San Francisco Medical Examiner's office tells SF Weekly the victim has not yet been identified.

The ME has ruled the death "suspicious." As noted earlier, the cause of death is not being released. Police spokesman Sergeant Mike Andreychak said, however, that obvious elements -- bullet holes, stab wounds -- would likely have been disclosed, if they were extant.

If this is indeed a homicide, it would be the second of the day. Dennis Wayne Dixon was shot to death in a Bayview home invasion at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday -- shortly before police received their first mysterious call regarding this death in the Mission.
