Cooley has declined to hand over the investigation of Adams over to another agency, saying he and the disgraced chief are not buds. "I've never been to his home," Cooley told the L.A. Times. "We do not socialize. It's a professional acquaintanceship."
Adams was previously sued for fraud, negligence, and waste of public funds by Attorney General Jerry Brown -- who is also running for higher office, incidentally, and stands to benefit from wringing the necks of the least popular public officials in the state. So it comes as something of a surprise that Cooley did not deign to charge the ex-chief.
In any event, Cooley may live to regret the above photo-op of him awarding Adams "The Presidents Award" in 2008. Expect Harris to disseminate it liberally.
