S.F. Police Investigate More Possible Arsons

Police are investigating two more suspicious fires that started over the weekend in the Balboa Park neighborhood, just a few doors apart.

On Saturday at about 5:30 am., firefighters responded to a fire that had started outside a dwelling on the unit block of San Juan Avenue. Fire officials called police on site because the fire "looked suspicious," according to police reports.

While police were inspecting the damage, they were called to another fire a few doors down. When they arrived, they found that someone had set fire to a flag that was hanging in front of the house. 

Arson investigators were able to gather evidence as well as footage from video cameras in the area.

Officer Eric Chiang said he does not know whether the two fires are at all linked to the four suspected arsons in the Castro District earlier this month.

On Feb. 4, a fire was set outside a home on Collingwood and 18th streets, just 24 hours after three other fires were started within blocks of each other. The fires burned apartments and left a handful of residents homeless.

Police believe the Castro fires were the work of a serial arsonist,
