KUSF in Exile goes live Saturday night at 8 with DJ Schmeejay's classical music show, featuring music by contemporary composers Luigi Nono and Gyorgi Ligeti.

"I think we're full steam ahead," said Howard "Schmeejay" Ryan via telephone from new KUSF in Exile Studios in the Bayview. "Tonight and tomorrow we'll ramp up as much live programming as possible, and come out really, really strong Monday morning."

In addition to beloved KUSF shows lost when the University of San

Francisco sold the radio station on  Jan. 18, Ryan says Monday's featured shows will

include a new broadcast called Renters Radio, a housing issues and public

affairs program hosted by the San Francisco Tenants Union.

"We're going to be better, and bigger than ever," he says.

As we reported previously, KUSF volunteers -- yes, the same ones who are challenging the recent sale of the

station  -- have created a home in exile, obtaining donated

streaming-audio bandwidth from New Jersey indie station WFMU. They've been broadcasting a recorded version of the old program schedule during the past few days at http://www.kusf-archives.com.

On Monday, volunteers agreed on a plan to rent studio space in the

Bayview so they could relaunch old shows and create some new ones.

As we noted earlier, the relaunched program schedule will also serve as a fund-raising tool

as the volunteers seek money to pay for attorneys challenging

the University of San Francisco's move to sell 90.3 FM.

The FCC has

not approved the KUSF sale -- despite the fact that 90.3 is now a

classical radio station. After filing an official FCC petition

protesting the sale, KUSF attorneys are now

awaiting a formal response from USF.

Longtime KUSF fans will get a special treat on Thursday at 3 p.m., when the broadcasting veteran formerly known as Teo Ted and now just Ted will be reigniting his show featuring eclectic modern and old music.
