San Francisco cops shot and killed a suspected bank robber last night after he allegedly tried to run them over with his car. Media outlets are reporting that the wanted criminal might have been the notorious "Gen X" bandit, who wore a distinctive plaid shirt.

Police are not releasing the name of the man, who was already wanted in connection with two bank robberies in Southern California. But the FBI had tracked his car via GPS to the Bay Area after two bank robberies in Irvine they say the Gen X bandit was responsible for.

At about 5:40 p.m., police arrived on the first block of Buena Vista Avenue in the Haight to apprehend the suspect. When they attempted to stop his vehicle, which was reportedly stolen on May 16, he allegedly tried to run them over.

Fearing for their own safety, police shot the man. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, the Examiner reports.

Police have not confirmed that the suspect is indeed the Gen X Bandit.
