San Francisco police are investigating the mysterious death of 68-year-old Robert Slivoski, whose badly decomposed body was found inside an apartment building last week on Polk Street.  Medical authorities identified Slivoski's body today, but say they will need more time to determine how the San Francisco man was killed.

On Thursday morning, neighbors called police to report an extremely bad odor at a residence on the 2000 block of Polk in the Polk Gulch neighborhood. Police arrived to find Slivoski's body inside an apartment. They have yet to determine when he was killed or how long his body had been sitting there.

Police have been interviewing neighbors around the area and were hoping to capture some evidence on surveillance cameras if there were any planted around the building.

Slivoski's death marks San Francisco's 50th homicide this year.
