Police are looking for three men who jumped a 20-year-old San Francisco man early this morning in what officers are calling a clear hate crime.

According to Officer Albie Esparza, the victim was walking along Font and Tapia near San Francisco State University when some guys in an Oldsmobile pulled up next to him and shouted homophobic slurs.

The victim kept walking, but the car stopped, and three men got out and surrounded the man, Esparza told us. They demanded his property, and began punching and kicking the victim.

One of the suspects put his hand in the victim's pocket and grabbed his cellphone. The victim tried to fight back, but the three men jumped back into the car and drove away toward Lake Merced.

The victim was treated at the scene for upper body injuries and abrasions, Esparza said.

The first suspect was described as a black man, about 20 to 25 years old, wearing an olive button-down long-sleeved shirt with a crewneck shirt underneath. He was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds. He had a thin goatee and was wearing a beige bandanna.

The second suspect was a 5-foot-10 white man, weighing about 150 pounds. He was wearing a gray pullover hoodie with a baseball diamond print on it. He had on baggy blue jeans and a short haircut.

The third suspect was described as a 5-foot-8 Hispanic man, weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing a tan shirt and baggy pants.

The suspects were in a four-door, cream-colored Oldsmobile sudan, possibly a late '70s model. There was no plate information given.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the SFPD at 575- 4444.
