Gold Dust Lounge Supporters Hope Nostalgic film Will Help Save Beloved Bar

Posted By on Fri, Mar 2, 2012 at 8:35 AM

Because having a bridge named after you isn't unnecessary enough, former Mayor Willie Brown is going to get a jump start on celebrating himself with an 80th birthday tonight -- four months early.

Da Mayor isn't turning 80 until March 20, but why wait any longer to lavish him with well wishes and gratuitous attention? Especially with those double-fisted vodka shots as your date.

Lee Houskeeper, the bar's PR crackerjack, tells us that the Gold Dust Lounge is officially declaring its venue as the "Official 2014 Willie Brown 80th Birthday Headquarters."

Before your eyes roll into the back of your head, let Houskeeper explains this birthday logic:

"Anyone who knows Willie knows he will be celebrating his March 20th, 2014 birthday all next year," Houskeeper noted. "Willie loves the Gold Dust and we love him. We wanted to get a jump on the festivities and toss the first of his many birthday parties 4 months early."

"In naming the Gold Dust Willie "The Bridge" Brown's Official 2014 80th Birthday Headquarters owner Nick Bovis expects to double Vodka sales next year," Houskeeper added.

In that case, go ahead and name your next horrific hangover after Willie Brown.

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
