Police are looking for a man who allegedly grabbed a 16-year-old girl in an attempted kidnapping as she walked to school this morning.

According to police, the girl was walking on the 5700 block of Mission Street at about 7:40 a.m. when the man grabbed her from behind and demand that she leave with him. The girl fought off the suspect who then ran from the area.

He was last seen running south on Mission Street, according to police.

The girl immediately went to school and reported the attempted kidnapping  to officials who then contacted police.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, possibly Hispanic, and in his early 20's. He's approximately 6-foot tall, weighing 180 pounds. He has dark, bushy hair and a thin mustache.

Police are asking for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact SFPD on the anonymous tip line at 575-4444 or, "Text-a-Tip," to TIP411.

Meanwhile, police are warning teens to follow these safety tips

  • Always be alert to your surroundings.

  • Be wary of a stranger deliberately approaching you.

  • Walk with a family member or friend, especially after dark.

  • If a stranger demands you follow him or her, or attempts to physically restrain you, do not comply, scream for help, run and immediately contact the police.
