Santa Clara County authorities released a photograph of a 1990s-model red Jetta, saying a similar car could possibly be connected to Sierra LaMar, the 15-year-old Morgan Hill girl who has been missing for nearly two months.
Sgt. Jose Cardoza told media outlets that the photo isn't a 100 percent match to the Jetta they spotted on a surveillance video and that was described by witnesses. However, they hope by releasing this picture, it might help further their investigation.
Cardoza would not say if, or how, this Jetta is related to LaMar's case, but he noted it took several weeks of interviews and reviewing surveillance before they felt comfortable releasing the photo.
LaMar, a sophomore at Sobrato High School, was last see on March 16 when she was getting ready for school. Police believe she was kidnapped on her way to catch her school bus, possibly by someone she knew
. A few days after she went missing, investigators found her cellphone and her purse with her clothes folded inside on the road -- in the opposite direction of her bus stop.
Not long after that, volunteers stumbled across an empty handcuff box and used condoms
near the girl's home. Police sent the evidence to the DNA lab, which gave them new leads
. However, they would not disclose what new information they have.
