A jury convicted 22-year-old Keandre Davis of first-degree murder for killing 19-year-old Lawon Hall as he left Club Suede in the city's SOMA neighborhood more than two years ago.
The jury deliberated for two days, concluding that Davis shot Hall several times on the morning of Feb. 7, 2010. According to witness testimony, Hall was leaving the club when Davis and another man cornered him in a vestibule and killed him.
Robert Burns, a patrol special officer, identified himself to Davis and asked him to stop. Burns began shooting at Davis after both suspects refused to drop their weapons. Davis was arrested, but the other suspect fled.
"People come from around the world to enjoy San Francisco's vibrant nightlife," said District Attorney George Gascón. "This verdict sends a powerful message that we will not tolerate violent behavior at our entertainment establishments."
