Witnesses in the Bryan Stow attack took the stand yesterday, giving jurors gruesome details of what they saw: Blood gushing from Stow's ears, and a loud echo when his head hit the pavement.

But what they they didn't see was perhaps the most important: the attackers, according to our sister paper, LA Weekly. The preliminary hearing for Stow's accused attackers -- Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood -- resumed today in Los Angeles. Both have been charged with mayhem, assault and battery, and inflicting great bodily injury linked to the March 31, 2011, attack on Stow, a Santa Cruz paramedic and Giants fan.

Stow had driven to Los Angeles to watch this hometown team play against its rival Dodgers for the 2011 opener. But the rivalry turned violent when Norwood and Sanchez allegedly attacked Stow in the parking lot outside Dodger Stadium, leaving him with permanent brain damage.

The witnesses described the same story in court: Two men in Dodgers shirts attacked Stow; one knocked him out with a sucker punch, then they both kicked him in the head and rib cage as he lay motionless on the ground, LA Weekly reports.

And while each witness saw the entire fight, not one could say for sure that Sanchez had been the attacker, and only one -- Megan Duffy -- identified Norwood in the attack. However, Norwood's attorney said her statements were unreliable since Duffy had once told police the man had "spiky hair."

Norwood, for the record, wore

his hair in a buzz cut at the time, the Chron reports.
