An 80-year-old woman is clinging to life today after she was hit by a drunk driver late last night in the city's Cow Hollow neighborhood.

According to Officer Albie Esparza, the woman was crossing the street at Van Ness and Vallejo streets at about 11:40 p.m.when a black four-door sedan hit her. The woman, who has not been identified, was illegally walking through the crosswalk when she was hit, police said.

However, when the cops arrived, they determined the driver -- a 41-year-old man -- was drunk, Esparza said. He was arrested and booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of DUI.

Esparza told us that the woman is in serious condition, with head trauma as well as injuries to her legs and arms. As of this morning she had undergone several surgeries, he said.

Police are having trouble identifying the woman, who had no identification on her. Esparza is asking for the public's help; anyone missing a loved one or friend should contact police. The woman is described as Asian, 5-foot-3, weighing 105 pounds.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the SFPD's anonymous tip line at 575-4444, or Text-a-Tip to TIP411. There is also the limited English line 553-9212 or 1-855-SFPD.
