(Update 4:30 p.m.): BART officials say the man riding on the train toward Millbrae died; however, they could not say how the man died. He was seen slumped over in his seat.

(Original Story 3:34 p.m.) If you are like us, you are probably counting the minutes until your Fourth of July holiday begins. Sadly, it won't be anytime soon if you are relying on BART to take you away.

BART is reporting agonizing delays between San Francisco and the East Bay after a medical emergency brought trains at the Embarcadero to a screeching halt. According to BART, a person was reported on the floor of a train car at about 2 p.m. today. Emergency crews responded, however there were no further details on the incident or the passenger's condition.

Trains running through the Embarcadero have slowed or been stopped entirely for now. If you are planning to get home via BART, here's what you can expect:

Neither the Fremont-Daly City line nor the Richmond-Daly City line is carrying passengers across the Bay. So if you're  traveling between San Francisco and the Easy Bay, take the Pittsburg/Bay Point-SFO line or the Dublin/Pleasanton-Daly City line, and expect up to 40 minutes of delays.

Service is operating normally on the Fremont to Richmond line.

"Our goal is to restore full transbay service by the afternoon commute," BART posted on its website. "Keep informed. BART will use continue to use its website, mobile website, text alerts, e-mail alerts and Customer Services phone line to update you about any developments."

Check back for updates.
