Oakland has long been considered San Francisco's dumpy stepsister. No, the city doesn't have a kick-ass ballpark on the waterfront, but Oakland does have the East Bay Rats fight night, an evening filled with blood, babes, and booze.

President Barack Obama's recent trips to San Francisco are yet one more example of how the City by the Bay is the preferred destination. But just like Oakland finally got its own Ike's sandwich shop, we're also getting our own face time with the president -- and, no, it's not a pity stop on his way to S.F.

As the Chron notes this afternoon, the president is planning a trip to the Fox Theater in downtown Oakland on July 23 -- just a few blocks from the site of all the Occupy Oakland drama and Oaksterdam, which was raided by the feds.

So why would Obama choose Oakland over S.F. this time?

The Dems have put it bluntly: Obama really needs the money,

seeing how the Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney smoked

Obama in the fundraising category last month. And there's only so many times Obama can shake down San Franciscans in one quarter.

To see the president at the Fox, it will cost you a minimum of $100, which about what you would pay to see Crosby, Stills & Nash at The Fillmore in San Francisco. If you want a photo with Obama, that will cost you $7,500. And if you are still afraid of occupiers and believe downtown Oakland is too dangerous for you, there's another fundraising event for the president in the homogeneous hamlet of Piedmont. The event will be held at the home of real estate developer Wayne Jordan and his wife, Quinn Delaney, according to the Chron.

Because it's Oakland, there's no telling what else that day might bring. We also can't be sure that there won't be some angry pot smokers out there wagging their fingers in the president's face.

Phish is in the midst of a block of sold out shows at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (October 27-29). The Monday night concert featured a rare first set opener of “Walfredo” with the band members switching instruments for the song. The evening’s highlights included John Fishman and his iconic vacuum cleaner solo and favorites such as Chalk Dust Torture, Slave to the Traffic Light, Axilla, Rift, 2001 Space Odyssey, and Maze. The show also featured Phish’s debut of a, seemingly impromptu, version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” to with roaring approval of the, singing along, crowd. With Game 6 being tonight, partying Phish fans will join Giants fans in Civic Center Plaza where there will be a World Series viewing party on a large screen set up by the City.
