San Francisco police arrested two men who they say are responsible for attacking and stabbing some Dallas Cowboys football fans near Candlestick Park on Sunday.

Kristopher Viana, 22, and Alexandro F. Arguelles, 30, both of San Francisco, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. Viana was also slapped with a weapons charge, according to police.

Here's what happened:

While the 49ers were playing the Giants, the suspects approached the victim who was with his friends near the football stadium and started a verbal fight. The suspects were reportedly "trash talking" the Dallas Cowboys

jersey the victim was wearing. The fight quickly escalated into a physical brawl, police said.

The confrontation was broken up by bystanders, and the two suspects left the group. However, they returned a few minutes later -- and this time Viana was allegedly holding a knife.

Sgt. Michael Andraychak says Viana tried to stab two people, including the victim's girlfriend, before slashing the victim in the chest. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is now expected to survive, police said.

After the stabbing, the duo ran off, but not before Arguelles allegedly punched one other person in the group. Witnesses followed the two men and called police, who caught up with the suspects on Blanken Street where they were arrested.

Police would not release the suspects booking photos at this time.
