The San Francisco man who had been clinging to life after being attacked by a group of men as he celebrated the Giants' World Series win has died.

The Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 37-year-old Sean Moffitt, a San Francisco resident. Moffitt was celebrating with friends in the Haight District about 9:30 p.m., after the Giants won the World Series, when he was surrounded by five men at the intersection of Haight and Masonic streets, police said.

Moffitt says the men attacked him with a metal object and ran off. He managed to make his way home where he told his roommate about the incident, explaining how the men had hit him numerous times in the head.

Moffitt went to sleep that night, but woke up the next morning to find his head injury had worsened. His roommate called 911 and Moffitt was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died on Oct. 30, SF Appeal reports.

Police have no suspect description, and they are still considering the death suspicious while they wait for autopsy results, said Officer Gordon Shyy.

"The victim may have fallen during the celebration and sustained serious injury," Shyy tells us. "We are asking the public for their assistance."

Anyone in that area that saw anything, took pictures or video of the celebration, to contact SFPD. They can contact the homicide unit at 553-1145, the anonymous tip line at 575-4444, or Text-a-Tip to "TIP411."
