San Francisco prosecutors charged a sixth person in the vicious slaying of 26-year-old Stephen Reid, who was found lying in the middle of the street with a teenage girl, both bound and gagged.

Catherine Uong, 26, also known as "Killer," appeared in court today where she was charged with murder, residential robbery, and various assault and weapons charges, and credit card fraud, said Alex Bastian, spokesman for the District Attorneys Office.

She joins five other suspects who have already been arraigned on murder charges. Uong is being held on $2 million bail and is slated to reappear in court on Jan. 14.

Reid and an 18-year-old girl were found on Dec. 9 gagged and bound in the city's Visitacion Valley neighborhood. Reid was pronounced dead at the scene while the girl was taken to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition. She has since improved and is expected to survive.

A few days later, police arrested Montrail Brackens, 22, Vincent Bell, 31, Heather Leach, 24 and Maryann Manalastas, 22, on suspicion of murder. All four defendants have pleaded not guilty to the murder charges. A fifth suspect, 19-year-old Tyler Miller, was charged with conspiracy and being an accessory to the crime after the fact. Prosecutors claim Miller had destroyed evidence after the murder. Her bail was increased from $15,000 to $50,000, Bastian said.

The suspects are accused of breaking into 3733 San Bruno Ave. and assaulting Reid and the 18-year-old girl before tying up and gagging the pair. At some point, someone shot Reid in the back of the neck. They put both victims in a Yukon and drove them to the 900 block of Brussels Street, where they were later found by a passerby.

San Francisco is not just skin deep to these folks — it's a permanent resident of their bodies and souls. They may be scattered far and wide — everywhere from Bernal Heights to Brooklyn, El Paso, Tokyo, and beyond — but the one thing these self-defined San Franciscans all share is a deep commitment to the city by the Bay.
