Elderly Man Beaten After Fender Bender (Update)

Update: Police provide detailed description of the suspect. Read below.

A 74-year-old man is in critical condition this morning after he was brutally beaten in a Bayview parking lot.

Officer Gordon Shyys says the incident happened at about 5 p.m. at Third and Wallace streets when the suspect bumped the elderly man's vehicle in parking lot. Both parties got out of their cars, and the suspect hit the older man, who fell to the ground.

According to police, the victim hit his head hard during the fall. The suspect got back into his car and sped off.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he's suffering from a life-threatening head injury.

The suspect was only described as a black man in a black car. Police had no further information at this time, however, anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call SFPD at 575-4444, or text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD typed in at the beginning of the message.

Update: 11:40 a.m.: According to Sgt. Dennis Toomer, the suspect was a black man, at least 25 years old and 225 pounds. He was wearing a gray knit hat, long dreadlocked hair, black sunglasses, black T-shirt, and blue jeans. He fled the area in a black 2-door sedan.
