The San Francisco Police Department is searching for a homeless man who reportedly assaulted someone in the Castro District earlier this month.

On June 8, sometime after midnight, the suspect was getting ready to hit the hay right in front of a residence on the unit block of Hancock Street when the victim approached him and asked that he find a new place to crash, police said.

When the victim asked him to leave, the suspect "became aggressive," SFPD said in a statement. So the victim informed the already tired man that he would call the police, and that's when the suspect "attacked the victim, knocking him to the ground."

The altercation left the victim with "serious head injuries." He was taken to the hospital following the assault, but has since been released.

SFPD released a sketch of the suspect, hoping the public can help track him down.

The suspect is white, 6-foot-2, weighing around 200 pounds. The suspect "has a heavy build, curly brown hair and was last seen wearing a dark jacket, dark pants and a baseball hat," police noted.

SFPD asks that anybody with information on the crime contact Sergeant Kathryn Waaland at Mission Station at 415-558-5485 or call the anonymous tip line is 415-575-4444.
