America's Cup: New Zealand Team Live-Tweets Unchallenged Race

Posted By on Mon, Jul 8, 2013 at 3:59 PM

With everything going on this summer, it's understandable if you gave the America's Cup initial race a miss. So did two-thirds of the competitors.

With Team Artemis still mending the boat that lethally collapsed and Luna Rossa boycotting the race, Emirates Team New Zealand was left all by its lonesome on Sunday. Fans were treated to a Zen-like koan on water: What's the point of one boat racing?

You're not going to believe this, but New Zealand won the race.

More such farcical events may occur in short order. On Tuesday the Kiwis are slated to race Artemis -- which is currently without a serviceable vessel. And on Thursday the boycotting Italians are scheduled to sail against non-ship-shape Artemis (the unwilling vs. the unable).

But, we're assured, when the actual racing starts, it'll be something. Oh boy, will it be something.
