With everything going on this summer, it's understandable if you gave the America's Cup initial race a miss. So did two-thirds of the competitors.

was left all by its lonesome on Sunday. Fans were treated to a Zen-like koan on water: What's the point of one boat racing? See Also: America's Cup Director Threatens to Scuttle Race
You're not going to believe this, but New Zealand won the race.
More such farcical events may occur in short order. On Tuesday the Kiwis are slated to race Artemis -- which is currently without a serviceable vessel. And on Thursday the boycotting Italians are scheduled to sail against non-ship-shape Artemis (the unwilling vs. the unable).
But, we're assured, when the actual racing starts
, it'll be something. Oh boy, will it be something.
