Muni Accident Becomes Gentrification Allegory (Update)

Update, 4:18 p.m.: The alleged tech bus definitely wasn't from pharmaceutical company Amgen. An Amgen spokeswoman emailed to say the company doesn't use charter buses in the Bay Area.

Here's your daily allegory for the tech takeover of San Francisco: On Thursday evening a charter bus rear-ended the F trolley on Market and New Montgomery Streets, causing moderate damage to the historic street car and several passenger injuries.

One trolley rider was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and treated for a non life-threatening back injury.

Blogs and social networks described the bus as a tech shuttle, reportedly from the pharmaceutical company Amgen, according to SFist. That would certainly make for perfect symbolism and we're still hoping it's true, although SFMTA spokesman Paul Rose characterizes the alleged tech buggy as a "tour bus."

The Muni driver and a team of first responders evidently conducted themselves admirably, with much more restraint than the San Franciscans who had fun recounting the incident on Twitter. Not for nothing did SFist use the headline "It finally happened." Rose says the incident is still under investigation. The tour/tech bus is pretty wrecked.
