A 47-year-old man is in critical condition today after he was hit by a car while walking through the city's Oceanview District last night.

Sgt. Eric O'Neal says the accident happened at about 9:12 p.m. when the victim and his brother were walking through a crosswalk at Alemany Boulevard at Brotherhood Way. A driver in a 4-door sedan hit the victim, police said.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with a traumatic head injury that';s left him in life-threatening condition.

The driver, who was only described as a 27-year-old man, told police he did not see the pedestrians walking. The driver was arrested at the scene, O'Neal says.

O Nea'l says that between Dec. 31, 2013 and Jan 12, 2014, 167 pedestrians have been involved in collisions in San Francisco. That includes vehicles and bikes. In those incidents, pedestrian injuries ranged from minor to fatal.
