A video that might not bode well for BART cops has surfaced in the media, showing an officer using his stun gun over and over on a passenger aboard a train in San Bruno.

The video, taken Jan, 29, was aired by KPIX 5, and shows the BART cop giving some stern warnings to the passenger in question. According to the news station, another passenger had called BART police claiming he had been harassing commuters on the train.

When police arrived, they asked the passenger in question to step to the platform, but he refused.

"Sir, get off the train. Get off the train, Sir!" the officer was heard saying.

The cop then Tases the man.

The full video (you can watch below) next shows the passenger being dragged to the aisle. "Don't move or I'll Tase you again," the officer was heard saying. Later, the officer told the man to "get on your stomach or I'll Tase you again."

Other passengers were heard on the video telling the cop that the man had not been bothering anyone.

Then more officers arrive.

Per the news station:

As the man was being held down and handcuffed, the video shows the same officer using the stun gun on the passenger for five seconds. One witness was so horrified that she wrote a blog post about the incident and later reported it to BART Police.

Alicia Trost, spokeswoman for BART, released the following statement to SF Weekly this morning:

An officer responded to a report of a man who was drunk and harassing patrons on a Millbrae bound train. Upon detention, the suspect because [sic] resistive and a TASER had to be used to take him into custody. A warrant check on the suspect revealed an outstanding no-bail arrest warrant out of the California Department of Corrections for parole violation. The train was held for 18 minutes. A sergeant arrived at the scene to approve the arrest and conduct the use of force investigation. The suspect was taken to Peninsula Hospital for clearance prior to being booked for resisting arrest, the warrant, and public intoxication.1401-4266 L12

"Also, per policy and protocol BART Police has initiated the proper investigation into this incident. The link to the video on the internet was also forwarded to BART's independent police auditor," Trost added.

BART policy states that a stun gun can only be used if the suspect poses an immediate threat of bodily harm to the officer or another person.
