It's Official: San Francisco Weirdness Is Now a Big Part of Oakland

The latest San Francisco trend has been to move to Oakland, and as a longtime Oakland resident, we can tell you their presence has been felt.

A few unexpected changes we've noticed since San Franciscans started moving to our town: You can no longer get a 1-bedroom apartment for under $1,000; former friends who shunned us for living in Oakland have since moved to Oakland (we're still not friends); and downtown has attracted two important San Francisco fixtures: Ike's Sandwiches and an Obama fundraiser.

Oh, and the strange in Oakland has only gotten stranger.

While shopping at Trader Joe's the other day, we came across something we'd really expect to see in San Francisco: a wig-wearing dude playing the George Michael's "Careless Whisper" on the sax while being slowly carted through the aisles. We later realized it was a nice homage to the Sexy Sax Man.
