A 35-year-old man is recovering this morning after he was brutally attacked by a group of six men who beat him unconscious just to steal his cellphone.

The victim was standing at the 3000 block of 16th Street at about 1:30 a.m. today when he was approached by six other men. The group of guys kicked and punched the victim until he fell to the ground and lost consciousness, according to police reports.

When the victim awoke, he had a broken tooth and his cellphone was missing, says Officer Gordon Shyy.

The victim hailed a cab to the Mission District Police Station where he reported the incident to police. Anyone with information about this attack should contact SFPD at (415) 575-4444.
